Voice Notes for Google Docs — last updated 30 September 2026
What the extension does
Voice Notes lets you record a voice note in a Google Docs comment and saves it to Google Drive.
Information it uses
- Microphone: used only while you press Record. Recordings are processed inside your browser.
- Google Drive: with your permission, the extension finds the folder that contains the open document,
saves the audio file there, plays audio files that voice-note comments link to, and moves an audio file to the Drive
trash when you delete or cancel the comment it belongs to. It only moves files that it named itself
(file names ending in “voice 001”, “voice 002”, and so on).
- Sign-in token: Google gives the extension a temporary access token. It is stored only in your
browser’s local extension storage on your own computer.
What we do not do
- We do not run any server and we do not receive, collect, or store your audio, documents, or personal information.
- We do not sell, share, or transfer your data to anyone.
- We do not use analytics, advertising, or tracking.
Google API Services User Data Policy
The use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the
Google API Services User Data Policy,
including the Limited Use requirements. Data from Google Drive is used only to provide the features described above.
Your control
You can remove the extension at any time, and you can revoke its access to your Google account at
myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Audio files live in your own Google Drive, so you can delete them there.
